BBC » I don't really recall how this beer tasted but judging from the poor reviews I read online and that it isn't even listed on the Molson website I don't think it was very memorable.

Lucas from St. Johns, NL » Black Horse is a fine, full-flavoured brew WIDELY enjoyed here on the Isle of Newfoundland. Don't knock it if you don't know the taste.

Nick from St. Johns, NL » Widely enjoyed? There is a reason this is known locally as "horse piss".

Joe from Churchill, MB » that's why there's about a million different kinds of beer... everybody likes something different. i have to say this everytime i buy dominion haha

Jason from Stephenville, NL ... but I live in Reno, NV USA » You can call it pony piss or whatever you like but Black Horse is the only beer I miss. Those who love it (and there are quite a few) would rather nothing else. When I go home there are two drinks I crave and that is Tims coffee and Black horse beer!

Mike from Ottawa, ON » Black Horse is not a Newfoundland Beer . was a dow brewery beer brewed in montreal quebec , dow went bankrupt and molson bought the company , and molson in st johns newfoundland started brewery Black Horse ale in 1969 , Black Horse IS NOT a newfoundland Beer .......

BBC » Mike is probably right, but it is in Newfoundland where this beer seems to live.

Chris from Newfoundland » Not to nitpick, but Mike from Ottawa is right in general, but wrong about a couple facts. Black Horse was Dow, then Dow was bought by Canadian Breweries Limited (later renamed Carling O‚Keefe). When Canadian Breweries bought Bennett Brewing in 1969 they likely began brewing Black Horse in NL. Carling O‚Keefe was eventually purchased by Molson (in the late 1980s), which is why this is a Molson product today. No doubt, despite a mainland past, it's a Newfoundland icon today.
